Crossing the Arch into Amalfi is like leafing through a history book. The richness and lush of Amalfi can be perceived by walking through the alleys and glancing to observe the magnificence of the historic buildings and the Cathedral of Sant'Andrea where life revolves around the main square overlooked by the majestic gold mosaics of the Cathedral. Here, from the top of the “portico “ you can access the Chiostro Paradiso and the Basilica del Crocifisso which was the first Cathedral in Amalfi and is now the home of an important Museum.

With comfortable walking shoes and on foot from Amalfi you can reach the villages perched on the hills above. The footpath rises up into the "Valle delle Ferriere” and "Valle dei Mulini" along the river that for centuries fed the mills that produced the famous Amalfi paper.

Today this paper is still made by local artisans who will lovingly hand-write bespoke invitations and other delightful stationery for you.The River originates from a waterfall whose water and microclimate creates the perfect environment for a very rare specie. The giant fern “ Woodwardia Radicans” identified for the first time by the botanist Pier Antonio Micheli in 1710 is believed to be still there thanks to the area’s unusual high humidity.

By boat you can reach the fiord at Furore and the Emerald Grotto at the nearby cove of Conca dei Marini. The cave was discovered by accident, in the early 1900s, by a local fisherman Luigi Buonocore and thanks to a raft you can admire the natural spectacle of the cave crystal clear blue water and rock formations created by the eternal passing of time.

Also by boat from Amalfi you can reach other destinations such as the colouful coastal town of Positano and the chic island of Capri. And if you fancy a road trip the ancient cities of Paestum and Pompei are close by. Pompei is Roman and Paestum is the most northern Greek settlement in Southern Italy which was known at the time as Magna Grecia (i.e. Greater Greece).
